2023 Launch Concert

Sold out!

Seasons’s Greetings from the committee, volunteers and staff of Woodend Winter Arts Festival!

We’re working hard on all the arrangements for the 18th Winter Arts Festival in Woodend, including exciting new programming initiatives to bring light to our beloved heritage town.

Launch Concert
Sunday 2 April 2023, 2.30-3.30pm
St Ambrose Church, Woodend

Presented by Woodend Winter Arts Festival.
Tickets are on sale until sold out. Tickets are limited.

Grab some tickets as a stocking filler for your music-loving family and friends this Christmas, and tell your neighbours about this incredible world-class concert happening right here in Woodend this April.

We’ll launch the festival program on Sunday 2nd April in a fabulous, intimate solo concert by the one and only Joseph Tawadros, Oud virtuoso, composer and 6-time ARIA-award winner.

Joseph was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in 2016. Born in Cairo and based between Sydney and London, his chosen instrument, the Oud, is an Arabic lute. A virtuoso of diversity and sensitivity, Joseph performs in concert halls worldwide and is known for his brilliant technique, deep musicianship and joyous style of performance.

Joseph is the first world music artist to present a solo concert of original contemporary music for the BBC Proms. We’re just so thrilled that Joseph Tawadros (our first international performer since 2019) will be coming to Woodend during the beautiful Autumn season to launch the 2023 Festival in a colourful and virtuosic performance of his original works.

“One of the most impressive musicians to emerge in Australia … with a dazzling technique dispensing hair-raising tempos … His writing displays a real depth of emotion … revelling in a zest for life and celebration.”
– THE AUSTRALIAN
